Platelet rich plasma (PRP) treatments, fashionably known as Vampire Facials are now being offered by Australian Skin Face Body, Geelong.

Patients thinking about PRP injections should take care to choose a specialist medical clinic and Mr Holten is amongst the select few specialists performing PRP facial injections in Geelong and regional Victoria.

The PRP skin rejuvenation treatment works by generating new tissue. It is used to target deep lines, wrinkles, around the lips and is particularly well suited to plumping under eye hollows.

PRP facial treatments have made headlines around the world, and when Kim Kardashian began posting about her regular Vampire Facials it went viral.

How does PRP treatment work?

An autologous (taken from a person’s own body) treatment, the Vampire Facial uses the your own blood, spun in a centrifuge to separate the stem cell rich platelets.

Stem cells stimulate the surrounding tissue to go into repair mode, producing collagen and elastin and effectively plumping up the skin.

There is nothing new about PRP injections. PRP treatment has been used in the recovery of sports injuries, especially stubborn, slow-motion injuries like tendinitis for years.

Best of all we like it because it uses your own plasma vs. animal derived or human donor products.

What can I expect during a PRP treatment?

  • Your blood will be taken and tested before treatment commences.
  • The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate out the stem cell rich platelets.
  • A numbing cream is applied and these platelets are injected into the mid to deep dermis of the skin.
  • There will be some redness after the treatment and you may experience some mild swelling or bruising for 12 to 24 hours.
  • The process takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

How many PRP treatments will I need?

Patients usually have three treatments, four weeks apart, and then annually.

Platelets gradually increase collagen which can increase skin thickness and overall health of the skin.

As with all aesthetic treatments, these procedures can deliver some very good results, but those results will always be better when treatments are undergone as part of a broader regime of skin care.

Fat Transfer

Another autologous aesthetic treatment that is becoming more and more popular is fat injection or fat transfer.
