Our Approach to Skin Health

ASFB was founded by specialist plastic surgeon Mr Ian Holten on the belief that skin health is an important part of overall wellbeing. The clinic takes a holistic, consultation-led approach, providing personalised guidance based on each patient's concerns and goals. Honesty and realistic expectations guide every conversation, and treatment plans are developed only after a thorough consultation.

ASFB Skin and Laser Clinics were established to sit alongside the clinic's plastic and reconstructive surgery services, with locations now across regional Victoria.

Our team includes surgeons, doctors, nurses and university qualified dermal clinicians who work together across our clinics. Ongoing training and education help our team stay current with developments in skin treatments and technologies.

Meet Mr Ian Holten, Specialist Plastic Surgeon

Mr Ian Holten (MED0001130662) MBBS MD FRACS FRCS (Plast) Lon is a registered medical practitioner with specialist registration in Surgery (plastic surgery). He has more than 25 years of experience in plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Mr Holten performs a range of facial surgical procedures, including blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for the upper and/or lower eyelids and otoplasty (ear surgery). He also performs breast augmentation, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, abdominoplasty and body lift procedures.

A referral from your GP is required to see Mr Holten. All surgical procedures carry risks. We recommend seeking a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner before proceeding.

Consultations for Lines, Sweating and Jaw Concerns

Mr Holten, along with GP Dr Gareth Grainger (MED0001165160, Ballarat) and registered nurse Lara Bain (NMW0001108079, Geelong and Ballarat), offers consultations for concerns relating to facial lines and wrinkles.

Mr Holten also offers consultations for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), migraines, and jaw clenching and teeth grinding (bruxism). A Medicare rebate may be available for eligible patients. Eligibility criteria apply.

Skin and Laser Treatments

Our skin and laser clinics offer medical treatments for a range of skin concerns, including sun damage, pigmentation, melasma, rosacea and acne. Treatment plans may combine in-clinic procedures with a tailored skincare routine. Every plan starts with a consultation, and aftercare is a key part of ongoing care.

CO2 Fractional Laser Resurfacing (DOT Therapy)

Fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is commonly performed in the cooler months and may be used to address concerns with skin tone and texture.

Potenza RF Microneedling

Potenza is a radiofrequency microneedling system with four treatment modes. It is designed to stimulate the skin's natural healing response, which may support collagen and elastin production.

Vascular Laser Treatments

Vascular lasers may be used to treat conditions including rosacea, facial veins, facial redness, port-wine stains and poikiloderma.

Cutera Enlighten III Laser

The Cutera Enlighten III laser system may be used to address skin texture and pigmentation concerns.

Medical Grade Skin Peels

Medical grade skin peels are available in a range of strengths. They work by exfoliating the outer layers of the skin and may improve the appearance of skin texture and tone.

HydraFacial

HydraFacial is a multi-step treatment that combines cleansing, exfoliation and hydration. It is a different process to traditional microdermabrasion, and your clinician can advise whether it suits your skin type.

Non-Surgical Body Contouring

Non-surgical body contouring treatments are available. Suitability and expected outcomes are discussed during consultation.

Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal may lighten tattoos over a course of treatments. The number of sessions needed and the degree of fading vary between individuals and depend on factors such as ink colour, depth and skin type.

Skin Cancer Checks and Treatment
