SKIN CANCER
Skin Checks
A comprehensive full-body skin and mole check with ASFB's experienced doctors & nurse practitioners.
About Skin Checks
Skin cancer is highly treatable when detected early, which is why regular skin checks matter. ASFB's doctors provide a comprehensive full-body skin and mole check, examining your skin for new or changing spots, moles, or lesions. If any abnormalities are detected, on-site treatment is available at both our Geelong and Ballarat clinics, with minor surgical procedures performed in our fully equipped clinics — meaning treatment can often begin without delay.
No GP referral is required to book a skin check with our team.
Reducing Your Risk
Alongside regular skin checks, a few everyday habits can help reduce your risk:
Use sunscreen daily, ideally zinc-based, even on cloudy days
Wear protective clothing, including a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
Seek shade during peak UV hours, generally between 10am and 3pm
Check your own skin regularly between clinic visits, and pay attention to any changes in the size, shape or colour of a spot or mole
If it's been more than 12 months since your last skin check, or you've noticed a new or changing spot, it's worth booking an appointment.

A skin check involves a full-body examination by one of our doctors, looking for new or changing spots, moles or lesions. The appointment is usually straightforward and doesn't require any special preparation. If anything of concern is found, your doctor will discuss next steps with you, which may include further diagnosis, biopsy, or treatment.
-
If an abnormality is detected, ASFB can perform on-site diagnosis and, where appropriate, minor surgical procedures at our Geelong and Ballarat clinics — meaning further treatment can often begin without long delays or the need to be referred elsewhere.
-
This depends on your individual risk factors, which your doctor can discuss with you. As a general guide, if it's been more than 12 months since your last skin check, it's worth booking an appointment — particularly heading into spring and summer, when UV exposure tends to increase.

Early detection significantly improves outcomes for skin cancer. As with any medical assessment, individual circumstances vary, and your doctor can discuss what's relevant to you specifically at your appointment.
